Hive
Altered telephone books

With “Hive” Lahde has continued to investigate possibilities for transforming familiar objects into sculptural forms. Using patterns borrowed from nature she has reformatted telephone books so that they become architectural structures. Lahde has created a modular sculpture that emulates the pattern of a honeycomb, cross-referencing the social behaviours of insects and humans.

Hive was exhibited in the exhibition Birds and the Bees at Oakville Galleries, curated by Marnie Fleming in 2011 and in Paper Pusher at the Central Art Garage in Ottawa ON in Winter 2013-14.

Kristiina Lahde would like to acknowledge the support of the Ontario Arts Council.
